The Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission is hosting an open house on Thursday, Dec. 20 from 2 to 4 p.m. Children 2 to 12 and their parents are invited to bring a Christmas gift of cold weather clothing, toiletries, etc., to share with the homeless. They also will tour the women's dorm and family suites, decorate cupcakes, make crafts, play games, and see a live nativity. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

During November 12-16, 2012, which is National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week, the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission's Youth Council will conduct goods drives in their high schools, collecting items to help the homeless at each school.

On the sixty-first annual observance of the National Day of Prayer on May 3, local citizens gathered at the foot of the newly-erected crosses in front of the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission to pray for America. Rev. Henry Martin, Executive Director of Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission, received the Shreveport Bar Association's Liberty Bell Award on May 2. This award recognizes an individual outside of the legal profession who has made a significant contribution to the community.

They recently donated 25 pairs of men's work boots, socks, and toiletry items. Donations are needed for the men, women, and children sheltered at SBRM. Bring items to 901 McNeil Street.
