In Spring 2011, the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission’s Board of Directors approved the purchase of 22 acres of property in the Greenwood, LA, area, which formerly was the Joy Home for Boys. The property and residential facilities house men in Phases 2 and 3 of SBRM’s Men’s Discipleship Training Program, providing dormitory, classroom, dining, and leisure spaces.
At Zion Ridge, men are removed from the day-to-day stresses and temptations of life, something difficult to achieve in an inner-city facility. Greater program success has been linked with concentrated training in a rural setting. Participants are better able to focus on Christ and develop new patterns of behavior.
SBRM is researching different enterprise projects that can be implemented to help raise funds for SBRM on these 22 acres, such as vegetable gardening, raising hay, etc.
