Survey: Volunteer Feedback
How do I get started volunteering?
We ask that all volunteers start by attending a Volunteer Orientation which are on a Saturday morning, 10:30 to 11:30, once each month. Take a look at the Mission calendar for future dates and please click here to RSVP.
*Groups: One member of the group may attend the orientation. It is the responsibility of that member to relate the information learned at the orientation to the group serving. Every person serving does have to fill out a volunteer application.
How old do I have to be to volunteer?
Due to safety issues, only children 12 and older can help serve in the kitchen area. The Rescue Mission requires anyone under the age of 18 to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian while volunteering at any of the Rescue Mission facilities.
I have small children. Can I bring them?
Children are welcome (must be 12 and older in the kitchen), but they must be supervised by a parent or legal guardian at all times. It is at the parent's discretion to know if the child is able to perform the required volunteer task.
Are there evening and weekend volunteer opportunities?
Yes, the Rescue Mission has volunteer opportunities seven days a week, mornings, afternoons and evenings.
What kinds of things can volunteers do?
Volunteers are able to engage in a variety of tasks:
Food service
Interacting with clients
Retail work
Office/Administrative
Special Events (seasonal)
What if my schedule is inconsistent? Can I still volunteer?
Yes, depending on what kind of activity you are interested in being a part of, a week to week schedule is completely acceptable.
Do you have any opportunities for groups to volunteer?
Yes, one member of the group must attend an orientation. It is the responsibility of that member to relate the information learned at the orientation to the group serving. Please note, everyone in the group must fill out and turn in a volunteer application.

Is there a dress code for volunteering?
Yes, we ask that you wear clothing that is comfortable and modest. No short shorts, midriff-revealing tops, muscle shirt or any tight fitting clothes. Closed toe shoes must be worn in the kitchen at all times. Please do not wear clothing that portrays alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, sexual or violent themes.
