Last October I decided to call the Shreveport Bossier Rescue Mission and volunteer to serve a meal. I had been to the orientation many months before, but put off calling to see what I could do. When I talked to Anna Adams, she said they needed someone to serve breakfast on Thursday mornings. I was a little nervous the first time I went, but everyone in the kitchen was so nice and I really enjoyed myself. I began to meet many wonderful people, who live at the mission and many others who work at the mission.
I am also a member of the Journey of Sisters and Debbie Covington, who teaches a Bible study class to some of the ladies at the mission, asked if I would like to come and help. I did and through the class have come to know many ladies and have learned so much from them. I do call them my friends and feel very blessed to know each and every one of them. They have taught me how strong people can be during difficult times and still have a smile on their face. They are amazing!
Volunteering at the Rescue Mission is one of the highlights of my week. I only wish I had started many years before. To anyone considering volunteering at the Rescue Mission, it will change your life and you will never regret it! It will make you appreciate your own blessings and have admiration for those who have been through some tough times, but are still trying hard every day to make better lives for themselves and their families. I know God led me there for a reason and I am so happy He did. Thanks for letting me share.
