Embracing a Life Longed For

Britney’s story is a powerful testament to God’s healing and transformation. Britney endured childhood trauma, entered juvenile detention at 11, and struggled with bipolar disorder, feelings of unworthiness, and substance abuse.

On the brink of homelessness, Britney turned to the Mission where everything changed. Avoiding any kind of commitment had become a pattern in her life, making her leap of faith to join our long-term New Beginnings Program even more difficult.

At first, Britney kept everyone at arm’s length, filled with fear, anxiety and anger. She had built walls around herself, believing she was unworthy of love, even the love of her own family.

But as God worked in her heart, she slowly embraced His healing power. With guidance and support, she learned how to manager her emotions and mental health. Over time, her fear and anger gave way to purpose, and she embraced structure and responsibility.

A turning point was Britney’s baptism at the Mission, symbolizing her new life in Christ. She also began restoring broken relationships, reconnecting with her mother and seeing her teenage daughter for the first time in ten years. The Britney who once avoided commitments and pushed people away was now seeking and mending relationships and embracing accountability. Britney learned to trust others, to open her heart and to build a future with confidence.

After graduating, Britney quickly found work, saved her money, and with a close friend, moved into their own apartment. This past Thanksgiving, Britney and her roommate hosted friends and Mission sisters in their home, a moment of joy and gratitude. The contrast of who Britney was when she arrived at the Mission and who she is now can only be attributed to God fulfilling His promises in Jeremiah 29:11.

Britney has gone from being lost and hopeless to living a life of faith and stability. Britney is no longer defined by her past. She is living in the light of God’s grace and embracing the future He has prepared for her.
