Trust Walk: Darlene’s Story

What do you do when it feels like life has taken everything from you? For Darlene, a 15-year Army veteran, one hardship seemed to follow another. After losing her husband, relocating to Shreveport, and facing serious health challenges, she found herself without a home and struggling to survive. By the time she arrived at the Mission, she described herself as “broken, tired, and angry with God.” She couldn’t understand why He had allowed so much pain to enter her life. Yet even in the middle of her questions, God was pursuing her.

As Darlene began attending chapel services and reading the Bible for herself, she discovered a truth that changed everything: she could trust God with every part of her life. She describes it as beginning her “trust walk.”

The more she trusted Him, the more she witnessed His faithfulness. “I gained sisters in Christ. I gained a Father. I gained a pastor. I gained the Word. I gained food. All I needed to do was trust Him.”

As God restored her heart, He also began restoring her future. Through the Mission, Darlene received assistance securing her veteran benefits and was able to transition into a home of her own.

When Darlene first arrived, she saw only loss and uncertainty. Today, she has discovered something far greater than a place to live—she has found lasting hope, a family of believers, and a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. Her circumstances changed, but more importantly, God transformed her heart.
